Aistear
A comprehensive Aistear plan is provided for each month, in addition to integrating the theme throughout the corresponding unit where possible.
Engaging oral language activities
Each month begins with an exciting oral language activity based on the Aistear theme. Each lesson covers associated vocabulary, explores possible role-play scenarios and discusses suggested conversation language, as well as brainstorming resources for setting up a role-play area.
Flexible phonics approach
In Word Wizard Senior Infants, both alphabet and digraphs are covered in quick succession. As some schools do not cover digraphs at Junior Infant level, a set of corresponding worksheets is available as a teaching resource online. These may be used as an introductory activity before progressing with the phonics sections in the activity book.
Genre writing
Word Wizard Senior Infants covers the genres of recount, procedure, narrative, report and poetry. Genre writing is integrated with the various themes throughout each book. Each activity is accompanied by online teaching notes and templates for use on the interactive whiteboard. Some genres are further consolidated through play and may be found referenced as activities within Aistear plans.
